BOOK-CLUB PICKS: The Power of Healthy Thoughts and Feelings

With all this talk of arming teachers to combat gun violence, how about arming students with the tools to cure an ailing society. The signs are everywhere. From racist tirades in social media to nonsensical political rants, our kids constantly witness adults dismissing the feelings and rights of others as they spout their own, often half-baked, ideas.

Asking kids to do as we say, not as we do, is getting harder and harder. Nowadays, the doing is reaching them much faster than our words. It's reaching them via tablets, phones, computers, and whatever other device I haven't heard about yet.

Today's Book Club post is my attempt to help our society heal. Let's start a conversation around how even the smallest everyday interactions we have with others profoundly affect our health, relationships, and productivity. Did that friend "fill your bucket" by making you feel more positive? Or did that person "dip from your bucket", leaving you well, you get the idea. Consider reading and discussing these books with your family and students.

Don't forget to come back and let us know how it went.
